About the Different Thicknesses for Drawer Sides in Kitchen Cabinets
Typically drawer side thicknesses vary from 1/2" to 3/4". A good combination of thick drawer and good materials will make a strong and long lasting drawer.
3/4" Drawer side thickness
This is the best thickness for cabinet drawer sides. With a 3/4" thick drawer sides you have a solid foundation for your drawer. The materials will be mounted sturdily and will be able to withstand more weight and pressure over a prolonged period of time.
You can see our drawers being used in our Feel and Touch section.
Real people use our cabinets in our show room and you can see and hear how strong they really are.
5/8" Drawer side thickness
Although not quite as good as 3/4", drawer sides that are 5/8" are generally an acceptable alternative, especially if they are made with real wood. The durability is still a bit less though and the overall quality can be compromised if the material used is not very good.
1/2" Drawer side thickness
Drawer sides that are 1/2" thick or less are not optimal for cabinets. ½ inch thickness will probably be able to hold up well in a smaller drawer, but if you opt for large drawers, they will sag and wear our fairly easily once exposed to some weight or pressure.
